Please Help Us Find a Home for Wolfgang

Wolfgang is a wonderful GSD x who has been rescued from the streets of Greece by the Friends of the Strays of Greece, based here in Dorset.

Wolfgang hasn't had much luck with his first home, no ill treatment, but certainly not suited to each other, so is now urgently looking for someone to take him on and give him the life he deserves.

Wolfgang is wonderful in the house, affectionate and calm, loves his toys and is obviously clean. Outside he is strong on the lead, but this is being worked on. He has the makings of a lovely dog in the right hands.

If anyone can help short or long term, please PLEASE get in touch with us.

Sandbanks Beach Petition - Latest Status

Earlier this year, Poole Borough Council was proposing a possible dog control order for Sandbanks Beach which would last all year round. In response to this, Tricks 4 Treats organisied a petition against any changes and to raise people's awareness of what was being proposed which proved to be very successful and were handed into the Beach Office at Sandbanks.

We have, on numerous occasions, contacted the Beach Office at Sandbanks and on all occasions they have stated that they "do not have any further updates ".  We will continue to chase them as after the time and effort put in by many of our clients and their family and friends, we feel that we deserve an answer, preferably one that doesn't change the current state of play at Sandbanks Beaches.  Thank you once again to the people who took the time to fill out the Sandbanks questionnaires and to the people for signing the petition.

Dog Train & Behave Week

From 26th July - 2nd August 2008 we hope to raise public awareness of just how important it is to ensure that your puppy/dog is well socialised and trained to an acceptable standard. Having a socially acceptable pet dog creates an enormous sense of pride in us humans, because we have directed our dogs and shown them the boundaries within the family. This is something to feel enormously proud of, if indeed that level has been reached. Without the basic training and socialisation problems arise. This week is designed to raise the profile of dog training and behaviour. With all the media coverage of dog related incidents it is all the more important to provide the correct level of care for our dogs and prevent such problems from arising.

Tricks 4 Treats run different levels of classes designed to help you to train your dog. Our Novice course gives you the basics to ensure you have good verbal control of your dog. The Intermediate course furthers you and your dogs skills aswell as strengthen your relationship, as for the most part the sessions are completed off lead, therefore increasing your confidence in your dog. Advanced courses push you and your dog even further while giving you and your dog some dedicated time together learning new exercises and tricks. Our fun dog agility courses allow you to enjoy doing something with your dog that gets their minds working, keeping them socialised with other dogs and people as well as keeping you both fit.

See the Dog Train & Behave Week Web Site for more information.

Ban Puppy Farming

Please sign this petition to show your support to STOP puppy farming on all levels. We need to make the Government aware that this just isn't acceptable, putting these poor dogs through constant breeding until they are no longer able to produce, all in the name of money!

The puppies bred through such methods are taken from their mothers very early and sold to the highest bidder, many suffering disease, worms, major flea infestation, and these are just those that make it!!  None of these poor puppies are looked after by these puppy farmers, they are just interested in a quick sale at the cost of both the Dam and her pups!

Please show your support and sign this petition, we need to raise awareness NOW!

Urgent Appeal for Rehoming

The Stray Dogs Sanctuary urgently require your help.  They have contacted us today with regards to Ben, an 18 month old Staffie x Lab who is currently staying at the Bridport Rescue Centre where he is awaiting a loving and patient owner.  Ben has the typical Staffie brindle colourings and unfortunately has a deformed front paw, he is a lovely dog who would be better suited to a home that can offer complete one to one, he isn't happy around other male dogs.

If you think you may be able to help, either by fostering or by giving Ben a 'forever home', or you know of someone that might want to help Ben, please contact Sandy on 01929 463981.

Online Petition Against Possible New Dog Control Order for Sandbanks Beach

The online petition, Beach Users Consultation survey and written petition are now closed.

Tricks 4 Treats has recently joined forces with DWAG (Dog Walkers Action Group) in the fight against a suggested dog ban on Sandbanks beaches.

We currently have a 'normal' petition doing the rounds. If you think you are able to gain much needed signatures a copy can be downloaded and printed out.  Please return the petition to us here at Tricks 4 Treats and we will forward all the petitions onto Sandbanks Beach Office.

Sandbanks Beach Office has also created and recently supplied us with a "Beach Users Consultation" document/survey, which can also be downloaded from this site. Please do download and fill it out and if you can, also hand out a few to others to complete. The document can either be posted back to Sandbanks Beach Office or emailed back to them (address details and email address can be found at the foot of the document). Alternatively, please feel free to send them to us, we are more than happy to forward these onto Sandbanks Beach Office.

We have also set up an online petition on our site which will be printed out and sent to Sandbanks Beach Office.

All petitions and surveys must be completed and returned by Monday 17th March 2008.

Please pass this information on to everyone and anyone!  If you have any questions feel free to contact us.

Possible Dog Control Order for Sandbanks Beach

You may be aware that very recently Poole Borough Council have held meetings with regards to dogs on Sandbanks beach.  There have apparently been a number of complaints from parents who have expressed their feelings about dogs on the beaches that their children play on.  It has also been noted that these complaints come from parents with children from 1 - 4 years of age.  We have, for many years, been walking our dogs on Sandbanks beaches with no problems or worries, and now we find ourselves, like so many others nationwide, in the spot light and under threat of having our wonderful beach front walks stopped for good!

This issue has reached the Scrutiny Board level at Poole Borough Council.  The following is their proposal:

PROPOSAL

3.1    Leisure Services will this winter begin consulting beach users on all year round dog free beach at Sandbanks. Currently Sandbanks is the only beach that is staffed all year an is the most popular beach.  Discussions with ECPS have indicated that this may be possible as it only represents 10% of the total beach frontage. Further advice indicates that it would not be possible to ban dogs from all the beaches all the time as this is not proportional to the problem.

3.2    Upon completion of the consultation a report would be prepared for Members to consider.  If approved, formal consultation would be required to amend the current dog control order.

Even though it appears unlikely that they will ban dogs from Sandbanks beach all year round, Tricks 4 Treats has set up a petition against the possible Dog Control Order so that we can all continue to enjoy our beaches. The council have stated in their proposal that the area this could affect will represent around 10% of the entire beach frontage, and although this does not sound particularly worrying, it is in fact a significant part of dog walkers access to beach frontage.

Currently we have printed petitions and if you are interested in receiving one to gain much needed signatures, please get in touch and we will be happy to forward one to you.

The current Dog Control Orders can be viewed here: http://www.poole.gov.uk/go.php?structureID=U46406b698b3ed&ref=N46DE5DB011458

Visiglo LED Collars

With all the dark, wet weather we are experiencing it is pretty inevitable that a fair few of us are walking our dogs in the darker hours, we most certainly are!  In light of this we felt it a wise decision to invest in a high visibility option for our dog so that he can be seen, even when chasing through the fields/forest etc!

After trying out the small barrel type collar attachments that blink, we decided to go with something with much more visibility, the Visiglo Collar.  This collar comes in three sizes and is made up of small LEDs all around the collar, so regardless of where your dog is or which direction he is facing, you can still see him roaming around.

If you are interested in purchasing a Visiglo Collar, please take a look on Your Dogs Needs.
